Who Was Man Of The Match? Gregor Kobel

Borussia Dortmund are looking to bounce back after being eliminated in the Champions League this season. It would take more effort to do so since Erling Haaland is not included in the starting line up, even though he would come off the bench shortly at the second half, plus they had to travel to Volkswagen Arena to take on one of the fairly in-form team after the managerial changes, Wolfsburg. Under Florian Kohfeldt, Die Wolfe had only lost once. It was in the Champions League this midweek. Die Borussen certainly would avoid losing again on the road just like while they were beaten by RB Leipzig.

At first, the home side managed to score an opener through the Dutch international Wout Weighorst. Dortmund was striving to respond, which they did, but needed to count on Emre Can’s penalty. It was a tie at the interval. The game remained even. Yet, apparently, it was the visitors who were able to take the lead through Donyell Malen who seems to start picking up his positive performance after netting a goal each in three consecutive fixtures. Finally, Erling Haaland sealed their win after replacing Malen in the 73rd minute.

However, the man of the match here was not the Norwegian forward or the skipper Marco Reus. It was their shot-stopper Gregor Kobel. Despite conceding at the first half, he was the key man to frustrate Max Arnold and Co on the attacking side. He made six saves and four clearances, which was more than enough to prevent Wolfsburg from even sealing a point at home.
