Who Was Man Of The Match? John McGinn

It was back to back wins for Aston Villa and new manager Steven Gerrard as the Villains beat Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park 2-1. Villa were on top of Palace throughout the game, and it was midfielder John McGinn who was the man of the match.

Matt Targett scored the opening goal for Villa early in the first half, as former Manchester United winger’s corner in the 15th minute fell to Matt Targett who finished past the Palace goalkeeper. That was the only goal of the first half, as the team went into halftime at 1-0.

Villa continued their fine form and game in the second half and held on until adding a second to their score and making it 2-0. It was a fine team goal as Anwar El Ghazi found John McGinn who scored a curler doubling the away’s side advantage.

Palace pulled one back in injury time in the 94th minute, via a toe poke at the near post from Marc Guéhi, who found Cheikhou Kouyaté’s pass, but it was too little too late as the referee blew the whistle, giving Villa and Gerrard all 3 points.
