Who Was Man Of The Match? Craig Dawson
Liverpool’s first loss of the season came at the hands of West Ham United, with goalkeeper Alisson to blame for all three goals in David Moyes’ side’s 3-2 victory.
West Ham climbed above Liverpool into third place in the Premier League, ending Jurgen Klopp’s 25-match undefeated run in all competitions.
With their first effort, West Ham gained the lead when Pablo Fornals’ corner slid over Alisson’s glove and into the net, despite a VAR review for a probable foul. Aaron Cresswell was lucky not to be sent off for a studs-up tackle on Jordan Henderson, which was also reviewed by VAR.
On the other hand, Liverpool controlled possession and equalised shortly before the interval. Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a spectacular free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards, the lone chance on target in the first half.
After Sadio Mane lost the ball, West Ham caught Liverpool on the counter-attack. Jarrod Bowen passed the ball to Fornals, who fired a low shot past Alisson.
Bowen set up the third goal by floating a superb corner into the area, which Zouma headed home.
Late in the game, Origi pounced on a stray ball to pull Liverpool back into the game, but they could not equalise.
In what is shaping out to be another excellent season for David Moyes’ team, it was the typical West Ham performance, highlighted by power on the counter-attack and tenacity at set-pieces.
It was West Ham’s fourth straight win, bringing them within three points of league leaders Chelsea. At the same time, Jurgen Klopp’s side is defeated for the first time since early April and for the first time in the league since March.
