Who Was Man Of The Match? Benjamin White
Arsenal beat Watford 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium to honour Mikel Arteta’s 100th game in charge. Emile Smith Rowe scored for the third Premier League game in a “rowe”. Pun intended.
The Gunners, who are now undefeated in their last ten games in all competitions, had been the much superior team in the first half without earning any reward. VAR overruled Bukayo Saka’s early goal for offside.
After Danny Rose’s blatant foul on Alexandre Lacazette, Ben Foster expertly saved Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty 10 minutes before the interval.
In the second half, Arsenal grabbed their first goal when Ben White was tackled on the outside of the area, but the ball was deflected to Emile Smith Rowe. The Arsenal youngster slammed a shot past Foster and into the goal.
On 74 minutes, substitute Martin Odegaard appeared to have increased Arsenal’s advantage, but the goal was ruled out due to a tiny contact from Aubameyang, who was offside.
Juraj Kucka was sent off for a second yellow card on 88 minutes, reducing Watford to ten men.
The win sees the London club edge away from Manchester United, who lost to Manchester City, and into a tie for the fifth position in the Premier League with West Ham, who play Liverpool.
Benjamin White is our Man of the Match today for his excellent performance.
