Who was Man Of The Match? Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United came back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to win 3-2 against Atalanta on a dramatic Champions League night at Old Trafford, relieving pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute.
Atalanta took the lead in the 15th minute when Mario Pasalic turned in Davide Zappacosta’s low pass from close range.
United, who had won only one of their previous five games in all competitions, looked depleted. It came as no surprise when Merih Demiral rose at the near post to flick in an angled header from a Teun Koopmeiners corner in the 29th minute, doubling the Italians’ advantage.
After a 4-2 loss over the weekend, Solskjaer’s situation at United was firmly in the limelight. The pressure appeared to be growing on the Norwegian when Atalanta took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Before the interval, United’s Fred and Marcus Rashford both wasted golden chances. Still, the home side came back into the game in the 53rd minute.
Rashford cut in from the left after a beautiful pass from Fernandes, and he selected his place with a shot into the far corner. Bruno Fernandes is our Man of the Match tonight.
After the static Atalanta defence struggled to clear a Fernandes ball across the box, United pulled level when Harry Maguire hammered the ball home at the back post.
Then came the winner, when Luke Shaw sent in a wonderful cross from the left, which Ronaldo leaped to meet brilliantly and head past Musso.
Manchester United, who were bottom of the group at one point during the match, have now moved to the top of Group F with three games remaining, giving them a much-needed lift ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool.
