Who was Man Of The Match? Trevoh Chalobah

In a game marred by VAR controversy, Chelsea beat 10-man Southampton 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell both scored late goals to take Chelsea on top of the table.

Chelsea took an early lead through Trevoh Chalobah’s goal. He is our Man of the Match today.

It was the first goal Saints have conceded in the first half of any league game this season. They came tantalizingly close to surrendering a second from another corner. Chilwell was the supplier once more, but this time Antonio Rudiger headed above the goal post.

Thomas Tuchel’s side believed they had increased their advantage when Werner scored before halftime. It was ruled out by VAR for a foul on Kyle Walker-Peters by Cesar Azpilicueta in the build-up.

Southampton made full advantage of the respite, with James Ward-Prowse equalizing after a foul by Ben Chilwell on Tino Livramento inside the box. But the Saints skipper was subsequently sent off for a late challenge on Jorginho, which was elevated to a red following a VAR review.

It proved pivotal as Werner headed home Azpilicueta’s cross to restore Chelsea’s lead. Chilwell scored a third five minutes later to guarantee Tuchel’s side got back on track – and back to the top of the Premier League standings – ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester City on Sunday.
