Who was Man Of The Match? Curtis Jones
The Reds seems to be at one of their favorite places when it comes to winning in the away fixtures in Champions League this weekend. Such is Porto, where they always have run riot against the home side under Jurgen Klopp. After a big win in 2018 and 2019, Liverpool once again hammered Porto by five goals to one. Mo Salah and the Brasilian forward who often loses his place in the starting XI this season, Roberto Firmino netted a brace, another one was scored by Sadio Mane. Sergio Conceicao’s men could only bagged a consolation goal through Mehdi Taremi’s header.
However, when it comes to the man of the match, none of those strikers were picked to be named one. It was in fact their young midfielder, Curtis Jones. He was impressive in this game by providing two assists for the third and fourth goals, being actively involved in the attacking build-up in the midfield, as well as helping the defence to prevent the opposition from going further to their backline by tackling and making clearance. The superb 20-year old midfielder’s form is one of the reasons why Jurgen Klopp prefers to rely on their academy products rather than signing many expensive names for their brighter future.
