Who was Man Of The Match? Gabriel Jesus
Chelsea and Manchester City met at Stamford Bridge for the first showdown between the two sides since the Champions League Final. The current European Champions went toe to toe with the current English champions, but it was Pep Guardiola‘s team who came out on top this time around with the game ending 1-0. Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal of the game, and for his goal, and being a menace for the Chelsea defence, Jesus is today’s man of the match.
The game was a tactical masterclass between two of the best teams, and managers in the world, and the scoreline is a fair reflection of the game that was played in front of a packed Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea were without Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount who were left out of the squad due to injury. Adding to that, Chelsea had to make an early change in the game as Reece James had to be taken off, and was replaced by Thiago Silva. Without Pulisic, and Mount, Thomas Tuchel had lesser options to change the game post Jesus’s goal in the 53rd minute. Tuchel did bring on Kai Havertz for N’Golo Kante, and then Ruben Loftus-Cheek for Jorginho, but the duo were not able to change the game and break City’s defence.
Pep on the other hand brought on Riyad Mahrez, Fernandinho, and Raheem Sterling to ensure City kept the ball and keep the lead intact. In the end, City held on having nullified Chelsea’s attack lead by in form Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku was a shadow of himself throughout the game, and his impact was minimised.
It was a close game, great to watch for the neutral, and City desrvedly won the game. City now go joint top with Chelsea and Liverpool with 13 points. Liverpool, however, have played a game less, and play Brentford away later in the day,
