Who Was Man Of The Match? Romelu Lukaku

In a dominant Chelsea performance, Romelu Lukaku scored the opener after just 15 minutes – a brilliant goal, after an excellent pass from Mateo Kovacic. It Was Lukaku’s first goal for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and he added another in injury time, putting the ball in the top corner with a strike off his favorite left foot. For that brace, and his contribution to the team, he’s today’s Man of the Match.

Not only he scored, he was a team player, pressed hard, and remained a menace for the Villa defense. Lukaku played a major part in Chelsea scoring the second goal.

Mateo Kovacic and Édouard Mendy also had an excellent game, and deserve a special mention for their contributions. Mendy was sharp between the sticks, and kept a clean sheet, while Kovacic pounced on a lose ball, result of Chelsea’s pressing, and also provided a brilliant assist to Lukaku for the first goal.

Chelsea are now joint top of the league with Manchester United with 10 points each from the first 4 games, and look in top form going into the the start of the group stages of the Champions League, and will be serious title contenders this season.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea during the summer transfer window, after winning the league with Inter Milan last season, and has already scored 3 goals in the first 4 matches.
