Who was Man Of The Match? Emiliano Buendía

Coming into the game, Villa had won five and drew once in all six of their previous top-flight meetings against Brentford, the most recent of which was a 2-0 victory in London in February 1947. In today’s lively and open first half, both teams scored early on. Ivan Toney scored his first Premier League goal, blasting boldly into the top corner at the 7th minute, before record-signing Emi Buendia equalised for Villa with a curling strike from the edge of the area, six minutes later.

Brentford became the first newly promoted Premier League club to escape defeats in their opening three games since Huddersfield Town in 2017/18; winning once and drawing twice.
